Return and refund cost calculator

A return may leave you paying for original delivery, a restocking fee or return postage. Enter what you paid and what the retailer says is refundable to see how much you recover. This tool uses your figures rather than assuming a store’s return policy.

Estimated cost you do not recover$36.00
Restocking deduction$10.00
Retailer refund$90.00
Return postage$6.00
Money recovered after postage$84.00

This checks the amounts you enter. It does not determine your return eligibility or legal refund entitlement.

How it works

  • Restocking deduction = refundable amount × restocking rate.
  • Money recovered = refundable amount − restocking deduction − return postage.
  • Unrecovered cost = original payment − money recovered.
  • If you paid $120, can refund $100, pay a 10% restocking fee and spend $6 on return postage, you recover $84 and lose $36.
  • Do not count the same return postage twice. This estimates costs, not return eligibility, tax treatment or legal entitlement.

Calculations run in your browser using the numbers you enter. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere.

Questions

Where do nonrefundable delivery charges go?

Include them in the original amount paid, but leave them out of the refundable amount. The difference will remain in the unrecovered cost.

Can a return cost more than I get back?

Yes. If the refund is smaller than the postage you pay, the amount recovered after postage is negative. Check those costs before sending the item.
